7th October, 2012 ClubWPT.com World Pool Masters
Dennis Orcollo (PHI) 8-3 Mika Immonen (FIN)
Nick Van Den Berg (NED) 8-2 Wojciech Szewcyk (POL)
Karol Skowerski (POL) 8-3 Tony Drago (MLT)
THE FINAL THREE quarter-final matches took place in the 20th running of the ClubWPT.com World Pool Masters and there were wins for 2010 Champion Dennis Orcollo, 2009 runner-up Nick Van Den Berg and Polish rising star Karol Skowerski.
Taking place at the Hala Legionow in Kielce, Southern Poland, this is the 20th edition of the ClubWPT.com World Pool Masters and Matchroom Sport is working in partnership with the regional billiard organisation, Swietokrzyskie Stowarzyszenie Bilardowe as well as the Mayor’s office in Kielce. The event carries a $66,000 prize fund with $20,000 going to the winner.
Orcollo looked in top shape as he beat Finland’s Mika Immonen 8-3 to set up a clash with Mateusz Sniegocki (Poland). Immonen was never really in it and it will take a good player to eliminate Orcollo.
World Cup of Pool hero Wojciech Szewcyk, who looked sensational beating Ko Pin-yi yesterday, could not replicate that form against Nick Van den Berg who was a comfortable 8-2 winner.
The young Pole went into an early 2-0 lead which gave the crowd high hopes but they were soon dashed as the reliable Van den Berg put his head down and ran out the racks.
The final match was a dream finale for the Kielce crowd as their local hero Karol Skowerski looked all business as he opened up a 6-0 lead against Maltese speedster Tony Drago. The ’05 Masters champion got back to the table and put the frighteners on the Polish crowd as he won three racks in minutes.
That was his last hurrah as a couple of errors in the final racks, gave Skowerski the chances he needed to close out a glorious win.
Play continues this evening at 16.00 local with the two semi-finals followed by the final:
Mateusz Sniegocki (POL) v Dennis Orcollo (PHI)
Nick Van Den Berg (NED) v Karol Skowerski (POL)
