2018 US Open One Pocket & US Open Bank Championships to be held in Las Vegas

CueSports International, Henderson, NV (Sept. 1, 2017) — CueSports International is excited to announce that the 2018 US Open Bank Pool Championship will be March 20-22 at Griff’s in Las Vegas and it will be followed by the 2018 US Open One Pocket March 22-25. Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts and time constraints, CSI has cancelled the 2017 US Open One Pocket previously scheduled for December. We regret any inconvenience this may cause for players who had planned to attend. The 2018 US Open Bank Pool Championships will begin Tuesday, Mar. 20. It will be a short-rack format using a 9-ball rack, double-elimination. The race will be to four on the winner’s side and to three on the loser’s side. The finals will be a single race to 5. The entry fee is $240, which includes a $25 administration fee and a $15 green fee. A minimum of $2,500 will be added. If the field reaches 48, $5,000 will be added. Pagulayan wins US Open 8-Ball Championship

CueSports International, Henderson, NV (July 31, 2017) Alex Pagulayan proved the Lion still roars within him as he came from behind to steal the US Open 8-Ball Championship from Shane Van Boening, who had hoped for a second consecutive title and to earn back-to-back wins of both the US Open 8-Ball and US Open 10-Ball Championships. Pagulayan’s path to the finals included wins over: Danny Stone, Australia, 8-6; Skyler Woodward, Kentucky, 8-2; and Denis Grabe, Estonia, 8-3; before losing to Dennis Orcollo, Philippines, 7-8. In the loser’s bracket, Pagulayan bested Thorsten Hohmann, Germany, 8-7 and Lee Vann Corteza, Philippines and then gained revenge on Orcollo in the semi-finals, beating him 8-6. CueSports International, Henderson, NV (July 30, 2017) Shane Van Boening of South Dakota will meet Dennis Orcollo of the Philippines for the hot seat match of the US Open 8-Ball Championship at 1 p.m. PST July 30. Van Boening, who won the 2016 US Open 8-Ball & 10-Ball Championships, is hoping to repeat last year’s double dip. His path to the hot seat included wins over Sina Valizadeh, 8-2; Manny Perez, 8-5; Josh Roberts, 8-3; and Lee Vann Corteza, 8-6. Orcollo beat Chris McDaniel, 8-1; Danny Olson, 8-3; and Nick Malaj, 8-3; before sending Alex Pagulayan to the loser’s bracket in a tight hill-hill match. Van Boening scores second consecutive US Open 10-Ball Title

CueSports International, Henderson, NV (July 19, 2017) — Shane Van Boening once again proved to be an indomitable force as he plowed through a tough international field to capture his second consecutive US Open 10-Ball Title. Van Boening said his hard work in preparing for the tournament, which was a much different format than last year’s. This year, CueSports International, which produces the US Open 10-Ball and US Open 8-Ball Championships, returned the prestigious tournament to 9-foot tables. This year’s field was packed with international stars, including players from Greece, Germany, Qatar, Poland, Austria, Kuwait, and, as always, the Philippines. “My hard work, my breaks, helped me succeed to win in this very tough field,” Van Boening said. US Open 10-field whittled to final 16

CueSports International, Henderson, NV (July 19, 2017) — Only four remain undefeated at the 2017 US Open 10-Ball Championship. Shane Van Boening is the sole US player still on the A side of the bracket as the final day of the tournament begins. He is joined by Philippine players Lee Vann Corteza, Warren KIamco and Canadian Alex Pagulayan. Several tournament favorites were ousted during the second day of play, including Mika Immonen, Dennis Orcollo, Thorsten Hohmann and Billy Thorpe. After losing his first match to Pagulayan, Corey Deuel has torn an impressive path through the loser’s bracket, beating Sayeem Hossain, John Schmidt, Immonen, Vilmos Foldes and Orcollo. With a 64-player field deep in talent, it wasn’t surprising to see a number of big names sent to the loser’s side of the bracket, including Rodney Morris, who lost to Billy Thorpe in the second round of play, and Francisco Bustamante, who lost a nail-biting, hill-hill match to Max Eberle.
