13th October – World Pool Masters Masters set for Gibraltar in February THE 24th ANNUAL WORLD POOL MASTERS will take place from Friday to Sunday 17th – 19th February as pool’s longest running invitational event moves to GIBRALTAR. 16 of the world’s best players will gather in the shadow of the famous Rock of Gibraltar to contest the Masters and determine the destination of the $20,000 top prize. 11th July RASSON announced as new Matchroom Pool table supplier MATCHROOM SPORT is delighted to announce that RASSON BILLIARDS will be the Official Table Supplier at all Matchroom pool events over the next three years. The company, based in Jiujiang City in south western China, have made large in roads into the billiard world since setting up 26 years ago. Originally, they were a slate producing country, something that they still specialize in. Rasson will be bringing their top-of-the-range Victory table to the Mosconi Cup, World Cup of Pool and World Pool Masters. With the Mosconi Cup set for Alexandra Palace, London this December and details of the World Cup of Pool and World Pool Masters 23rd and 11th editions to be announced in due course, Rasson’s tables will be seen on pool’s global stage over the next three years. 8th June – 2015 PartyPoker Mosconi Cup Makkonen makes a move FINLAND’S PETRI MAKKONEN landed his maiden Euro Tour title in Germany at the weekend and as he crashed the European Mosconi Cup rankings and put himself in the frame for a December trip to Las Vegas. The 27 year-old Finn came through a stellar field at Baunatal and defeated Konrad Juszczyszyn of Poland in the championship match to claim the 20 ranking points. The win put Makkonen into second place on the Euro Tour ranking list, three points behind Niels Feijen. He also moved into third position on the Combined ranking list, a single point behind joint leaders Marcus Chamat and David Alcaide. There are three separate ranking lists in operation – the first comprised of a five event Euro Tour series; the second a four event ‘World’ series and the last a combined ranking of the two. The score line was their joint second best winning margin and leaves the Americans with some soul-searching to do as they attempt to get back into competitive shape for the annual transatlantic 9 ball showdown. Leading 9-5 going into the final session, the Europeans wanted just two points for the glory and two matches were all that were needed as first Darren Appleton beat Shane Van Boening 5-2 and then Nikos Ekonomopoulos did the same by a similar score to seal a one-sided victory for Europe.
