Austria’s Albin Ouschan wins the 2016 World 9-ball Championship with an emphatic 13-6 win over American Shane Van Boening. But even he couldn’t have imagined the dream day he just conjured up on the way to winning pool’s most prestigious prize. After first blowing out Canada’s Alex Pagulayan in the semi-final, Ouschan came back to put an emphatic and somewhat shocking 13 – 6 drubbing on American Shane Van Boening to capture his first WPA World 9-ball championship in front of over 400 people at the Al Arabi Sports Club in Doha. World Cup of Pool Qualifier kicks off in Tirana today

#02/08/2016 World Cup of Pool Qualifier kicks off in Tirana today Following the Dynamic Billard European Championships Youth, the qualifying tournament for this year’s World Cup of Pool will kick off today in Expo Center, Tirana, Albania. 26 teams from 16 nations have announced for a chance in this tournament. Only the winning team gets a spot in the main field of the World Cup of Pool. Players from Croatia, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Turkey, North Cyprus, Slovakia, Portugal, Belarus, Luxembourg, Denmark, Latvia, Albania, Scotland, Bosnia&Hercegovina, Switzerland and Hungary are among the contestants. The tournament is scotch doubles which means that the two player which make a team take their shots in turns. 9-ball, race to eight, alternate break, double elimination is the format. There is one (1) spot directly into the World Cup of Pool available. The next highest finishing teams will form the basis of a reserve list should any of the invited teams fail to travel to the World Cup of Pool in October. By Ted Lerner – WPA Press Officer Photos Courtesy of Bo Bader (Doha, Qatar)–Misery and joy danced a sultry tango today at the Al Arabi Sports Club in Doha on Day 2 of the 2016 WPA World 9-ball Championship, as 32 players headed for the exits, while another 32 players booked their place in the final 64 knockout stage. As on Day 1, all 128 players saw action, but unlike the opening rounds, much more was at stake. All 32 losers-side matches in the group stage were do-or-die. All 32 winners-side matches offered the victor a massive sigh of relief, and a day off as they await the start of the single elimination knockout stage which begins on Tuesday. 2016 US Open 8-Ball Championship underway at The Rio CueSports International, Henderson, NV (July 23, 2016) The winners’ side of the bracket is filled with heavy hitters after the first day of competition was complete at the 2016 US Open 8-Ball Championship at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Thorsten ‘The Hit Man’ Hohmann, Rodney ‘The Rocket’ Morris and the legendary Francisco Bustamante remain on the A-side of the bracket, along with Vilmos Foldes, Amar Kang, Jesse Bowman, Rory Hendrickson, Josh Roberts and Matt Edwards. And so Van Boening was able to pocket a second US Open 10-Ball Championship, and the $10,000 prize that accompanied a silver cup. Thorpe ends Hohmann’s hope of retaining US Open 10-Ball title CueSports International, Henderson, NV (July 20, 2016) Young gun Billy Thorpe, 20, of Dayton, Ohio, nixed Thorsten Hohmann’s chances to retain the US Open 10-Ball Championship title the German, who now lives in Florida, earned in 2015. Thorpe beat Hohmann 10-8 in a loser’s side match late Wednesday evening. John Schmidt, former U.S. Open 9-Ball Champion from California, put Hohmann on the B side of the double-elimination bracket during the first round, 10-5. Hohmann then had a bye before beating Danny Smith of Toledo, Ohio 10-3. Thorpe also lost his first-round match to Amar Kang of California and then beat Kyle Pepin of Maine before facing Hohmann. Only 22 players remain of the 52-player field that started play Wednesday at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.
