Then Alcaide even got to 7:6 over Feijen. But „The Terminator“ showed a strong will for victory today. In rack 14, Feijen broke and ran out to equalize the score at 7:7. He failed and allowed Feijen back to the table. „The Terminator“ played a safety shot which was not good enough for Alcaide. The […]

Mika Immonen is the 76th World 14.1 Champion

Photos by Joseph Ratke 76th World 14.1 Sept. 5-11, 2016 New York City, Steinway Billiards New York City- It seems only fitting that two adopted New Yorkers play for the World 14.1 Title on the 15th Anniversary of 9/11. Mika Immonen is from Finland, but he has resided in NYC for over 15 years. And Earl Strickland, who hails from North Carolina, has lived in New York for about five years now. In the end, it was Immonen who was able to sigh a deep breath of relief. „Between the nerves and 6 hours of play, I was shaking. I have to admit I was more of afraid of losing in the finals again then thinking of the joys of winning“, admitted Immonen. „But I now have this huge weight off my shoulders finally. I can’t believe it. I’m the World 14.1 Champion and it is just such a huge honor.“ Immonen, age 43, was inducted into the BCA HOF in 2014 while Strickland, age 55, gained entry in 2006. Both players have been at […]

Van Boening earns USBTC 8-Ball title

CueSports International, Henderson, NV (Aug. 27, 2016) — “Finally!” That was Shane VanBoening’s reaction to winning the 8-Ball Division at the 23rd Annual US Bar Table Championship, which concluded Sunday at the Westgate Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. There’s few titles in the sport of pool that VanBoening hasn’t captured. Many he has taken in multiples — including being a three-time USBTC 9-Ball champion as well as a three-time USBTC 10-Ball Champion. But when it came to the 8-Ball division, the title was elusive and the closest VanBoening had gotten was second. Until today, when VanBoening bested Jason Klatt in the finals by a score of 5-3 and captured the title as the undefeated winner. VanBoening’s path through the 101-player field included wins over: David Espinoza, 5-2; Sal Butera, 5-1; Ronald Solgot, 5-0; Manuel Perez, 5-3; Chris McDonald, 5-3; Hector “Robb” Saez, 5-3; and Klatt. Klatt’s tournament trail included wins over: Bret Huth, 5-4; Ronny Park, 5-2; Justin Bergman, 5-3 and Roberto Gomez Jr., 5-4 before losing to Hector ‘Robb’ Saez, 1-5. In the […]

EPBF introduces European Rankings

13/08/2016 EPBF introduces European Rankings The European Pocket Billiard Federation just implemented as per now the new European Rankings. These rankings will take place of the Euro-Tour rankings with regards to nomination criteria for intercontinental events. So far, the players have been nominated through the Euro-Tour rankings as well as the European Championships for WPA-ranking events and World Championships. The European rankings will be the decider for that from now on, together with the European Championships. The difference between the Euro-Tour rankings and the new European Rankings is that the European Rankings also include B-sanctioned events. All Euro-Tours are included and points get multiplied by 2.0. The B-sanctioned events will get the same points but the factor to multiply them with is 1.5. Maybe from next year and onwards, EPBF will decide to also include C-sanctioned events in the rankings. The first event to get the nominations from the European rankings will be the upcoming Kuwait Open. The European Rankings can be found here For further information please contact our press office press@epbf.com

German wonderkid Filler knocks Immonen for eight

06/08/2016 German wonderkid Filler knocks Immonen for eight Joshua Filler (GER), the German wonderkid, just defeated Mika Immonen (FIN) in the single elimination round of the last 32 players of the Dynamic Billard Albanian Open in Tirana, Albania, with 9:7. The result of the match is definitely a surprise but not yet the biggest story about the match. Also the pure fact that Filler won against Immonen in itself is not the biggest upset here. The major surprise of the match is the fact how Filler managed to triumph over Immonen. After eight racks played, Immonen was leading 7:1 (!) over Filler and just needed two more racks to waltz into the round of the last 16 players tomorrow. But then the match turned 180 degrees. Filler did not miss any more shots while Immonen started making mistakes. He scratched while playing a push-out, ran out of position and hooked himself up behind the wrong ball and left safety situations for Filler that the young German was able to run-out. What could hardly be believed […]
