2017 Mosconi Cup Team Europe – Chinakhov on the rise

14th August – 2017 Mosconi Cup Chinakhov’s great season continues RUSLAN CHINAKHOV, who earlier this year won a World Pool Series event in New York, added to his impressive resume as he took down the Dutch Open on the Euro Tour to give his 2017 Mosconi Cup chances a real boost. It was the first Euro Tour win for the ‘Siberian Express’ as he looks to become the second ever Russian player to compete in the Mosconi Cup – Konstantin Stepanov was a Euro winner back in 2007. The win puts Chinakhov up to fifth place on the ‘World’ list and in second place on a tightly packed ‘European’ leaderboard. Players currently filling the top spots are Joshua Filler and Ralf Souquet (both Germany) on the ‘World’ list and Holland’s Nick van den Berg on the European list. Unlike previous years there will be only two rankings instead of three. 29th June – 2017 Mosconi Cup Team USA standings after eight events ONCE AGAIN, it was Shane Van Boening who took the honours as the eighth event on Team USA Mosconi Cup qualification took place in Oregon. The tournament was the Pac West Invitational and it was Van Boening who triumphed beating Filipino Ramil Gallego in the championship match to take maximum points. High finishers included Dennis Hatch who is chasing a fifth Mosconi Cup appearance nine years after he made his MVP-winning debut at the MGM in 2009. Other contenders harvesting the points included Oscar Dominguez, a team mate of Hatch in 2009, and Skyler Woodward who enters the top ten for the first time. The name of the game is to finish inside the top ten of the ranking once the 17th and final event has concluded in early September. 18th June – 2017 Mosconi Cup Filler breaks through in China to go top JOSHUA FILLER, the 19-year-old from Germany, stunned the pool world as he took the China Open beating a string of world-class opponents in Shanghai. It was the youngster’s breakout victory and sends him soaring to the top of the Mosconi Cup Team Europe World ranking. Filler collected a massive 80 points for his victory and there were nine other Europeans in the points including semi-finalist Thorsten Hohmann who bagged 53. With the previous four events counting for both European and World Rankings, the European ranking stays the same. Taking place from Monday 4th to Thursday 7th December, the 2017 Mosconi Cup will take place at the prestigious Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas. 22nd May – 2017 Mosconi Cup He wins as VDB goes top Nick van den Berg leapfrogged Ralf Souquet to take pole position on the European Mosconi Cup rankings after the Eurotour Austrian Open. Van den Berg collected 23 points for reaching the last eight of the tournament, where he fell to eventual finalist Francisco Sanchez Ruiz of Spain. Mario He rises to fourth after collecting the title. Albin Ouschan, MVP at last year’s Mosconi Cup, climbs into the top ten as a beaten semi-finalist while the other defeated semi-finalist, Joshua Filler, moves up two places to eighth. 4th May – 2017 Mosconi Cup UK Open added to Euro Ranking list THE UK OPEN, promoted by the GB9 Tour in the UK, is the latest event to be added to Team Europe’s Mosconi Cup ranking event roster. Taking place from August 4th to 6th in Telford, the event offers a €13,000 guaranteed prize fund and is a Level Three event offering 28 ranking points to the winner. The same event was part of last year’s qualification and it was won by Holland’s Niels Feijen who defeated Francisco Sanchez Ruiz (ESP) to take maximum points. 13th April – 2017 Mosconi Cup Team USA standings after seven events WITH THREE more events played on the USA Mosconi Cup ranking, it’s that man again as Shane Van Boening once again tops the list after winning the Pro Players Championship at the Super Billiards Expo. That’s brings the total of events played up to seven as the South Dakota Kid looks to make his 11th appearance in the event. Despite missing the World Pool Series events in New York for personal reasons, Dennis Hatch stays in the upper echelons as he looks to make his fifth appearance in the Mosconi Cup. This year it’s about finishing in the top ten once the 16th and final event has been played out in early September. That’s when USA skipper Johan Ruijsink will be making his picks from the top ten finishing players. 10th April – 2017 Mosconi Cup Souquet consolidates position at the top GERMANY’S RALF SOUQUET tightened his grip at the top of the European 2017 Mosconi Cup rankings with another great performance as he finished in the top four of the recent Portuguese Open in Salgados. With no ‘World’ events having taken place yet, the ‘European’ and ‘World’ rankings are currently one and the same and the Kaiser has opened up a 45 points lead over third spot. Souquet has already appeared in more Mosconi Cups than any other European player (16) and will looking to return to the side for his first appearance since 2013.
