5th June – 2015 World Cup of Pool World Cup of Pool returning to London The annual World Cup of Pool returns to London as the iconic York Hall once again plays host to the prestigious pairs event from 22nd to 27th September. The East London venue has a rich pool history having staged the Mosconi Cup on eight occasions as well as the World Cup in 2013. Now in its tenth year, the World Cup of Pool features 32 two-player teams from around the world battling it out for a $250,000 prize fund. The defending champions are England – Darren Appleton and Karl Boyes – who sealed the title in a classic battle against Holland in Portsmouth last year. 19th May – 2015 PartyPoker World Pool Masters Superstar field announced for Manchester WITH THE 2015 PARTYPOKER WORLD POOL MASTERS set to take place at the iconic Victoria Warehouse, Manchester from Friday 14th to Sunday 16th August, Matchroom Sport can announce the field for the 23rd annual pocket billiards showdown. Sporting a $20,000 top prize, the Masters aims to bring together some of the biggest names from around the world to contest what is the game’s most sought-after title. Heading the field will be defending champion Shane Van Boening (USA) as well as former champs Darren Appleton of England and Holland’s Niels Feijen, winners in 2009 and 2013, respectively. 27th April – 2015 PartyPoker Mosconi Cup Chamat enters fray as race hots up MARCUS CHAMAT, who was recently named as captain of the 2015 European PartyPoker Mosconi Cup team is on course to land one of the three automatic spots following a runners-up spot in the recent Portuguese Open on the Euro Tour. The 39 year-old Swede was beaten by Poland’s Mateusz Sniegocki in the championship match, but the 16 pts earned coupled with his existing points tally, move him to a tie for first in the Combined Ranking along with David Alcaide (Spain) and Holland’s Niels Feijen. There are three separate ranking lists in operation – the first comprised of a five event Euro Tour series; the second a four event ‘World’ series and the last a combined ranking of the two. 21th April – 2015 PartyPoker Mosconi Cup FOLLOWING THE Super Billiards Expo 10 Ball Championship which concluded at the weekend, Shane Van Boening maintained his lead at the top of the 2015 PartyPoker USA Mosconi Cup ranking. Van Boening was the highest placed American, finishing in fourth spot and has now opened up a 23 point lead over his nearest rival, Justin Bergman who kept his second spot with a 17th place finish. Scott Frost, who has yet to compete in a Mosconi Cup, edged his way into the shake-up as he leap-frogged both Jeremy Sossei and Skyler Woodward to claim a tie for second. The event was won by Dennis Orcollo who beat Scotland$B!G(Js Jayson Shaw in a close run final. Shaw$B!G(Js high finish is another result which boosts his chances of a Team Europe wild card when both teams are finalised in October. 9th April – 2015 PartyPoker Mosconi Cup SWEDEN’S MARCUS CHAMAT, a six-time Mosconi Cup veteran, will take the helm for Team Europe when the 2015 event takes place at the Tropicana in Las Vegas in December. The 39 year-old Swede was the life and soul of the team when Europe won for only the second time in 2002 and has an overall record of 11 victories from 26 Mosconi Cup matches played. 3rd March, 2015 PartyPoker Mosconi Cup Shane takes the early lead SHANE VAN BOENING, looking to make his ninth appearance in the PartyPoker USA Mosconi Cup, is the early leader in the nine tournament qualification series for the three automatic spots. So far, four events have been played and Van Boening carries a 12 point lead over second placed Justin Bergman, following a strong showing at the recent USBTC in Reno, which included winning the 9 ball division. The third automatic spot is currently occupied by Jeremy Sossei on 26 points, with Skyler Woodward and Scott Frost both snapping at his heels on 25 points. Players who finish in the top 32 in the qualifying events will receive ranking points and there are three categories of tournaments with differing amounts of points awarded accordingly. The next event in the series is the Super Billiards Expo which takes place from 16-19 April in Oaks, outside of Philadelphia. This is a Category2 event. 23rd January – 2015 PartyPoker Mosconi Cup USA Team Selection – Reverts to ranking plus wild cards MATCHROOM SPORT can announce that the selection process for Team USA at the 22nd annual PartyPoker Mosconi Cup will revert to rankings as well as wild cards. This follows two consecutive years when the side was handpicked. The Mosconi Cup will be taking place from 7th to 10th December at a prestige venue in the USA, to be announced in the coming weeks. The first points tournament to take place in the schedule of events is the 9 Ball competition at the Derby City Classic which gets underway this weekend at the Horseshoe in Indiana. Players eligible for Team USA, who finish in the top 32, will be awarded points on a sliding scale.
