Manila, Philippines– South Korea’s Eunji Park has been selected to play for Team Asia in the upcoming AM8.com Queens Cup. The 27 year old Incheon native has proven herself a top notch opponent capable of big performances on the world stage. The greatest rivalry in women’s billiards is about to re-ignite. It’s nearly an all Asian-field, with three Filipinos, three Taiwanese, one Chinese and a Spaniard in the mix. It’s a heady cocktail of long time veterans and some of the great young players of the day. The affable Swede twice reached the semi-finals of the World 9-ball Championship, and finished in the top ten six other times. The last few years, however, saw the man known affectionately as “Napoleon” stay closer to his home of Gavle, Sweden. As a single father to a young boy and a pool club to administer, the calling of the brutally tough international pool circuit had to take a back seat. By Ted Lerner/WPA Press Officer (General Santos City, Philippines)–One thing that is a constant in any world championship in the sport of pool is good old pressure. But as the 2015 MP Cup World 10-ball championship kicked off on Tuesday in the Philippines southernmost city of General Santos, it was not the usual nerve rattling pressure that makes grown men cry and brings back the fans time and again that was on display. It was, rather, that nagging pressure to get out of the gates quickly, to find that championship spark that can carry you to glory later in the week. “There’s two kind of pressure in these events,” said an obviously relieved Karl Boyes after he took down former world 9-ball champion Ronnie Alcano of the Philippines 9-7 in their first match of the group stages. “The first pressure is trying to get through the group stages, to just […]

Ko Pin-Yi (TPE) gewinnt 2015 WPA World 10 Ball Championship im Finale gegen Carlo Biado (PHI) mit 11-9. Den 3. Platz belegen David Alcaide (SPA) und Ko Ping-Chung (TPE). Bereits seit dem 15. Februar 2015 findet in General Santos City auf den Philippinen die 2015 WPA World 10 Ball Championship statt. Diese Pool Billard Weltmeisterschaft bekommt leider in diesem Jahr nicht die Aufmerksamkeit, die sie eigentlich verdient. Wir haben mittlerweile mehr als 150 Emails mit Fragen zu dieser WM bekommen und leider ist die Antwort bislang immer die gleiche gewesen: „Wir haben leider so gut wie keine Informationen seitens der WPA oder des Veranstalters bekommen!“ Das ist wirklich mehr als traurig und wird einer solchen Veranstaltung nicht gerecht. Es gab keine Teilnehmerlisten, es gibt keine offizielle Website, kein Plakat oder irgendwelche Randnotizen. Nun, das zeigt erneut, wie es um die „Top-Events“ in dieser Welt oft bestellt ist. In der Zeit vom 16. – 22. Februar 2015 findet in Reno/Nevada die 22. Auflage der US Bar Championships statt. Dieses Pool Billard Turnier ist in den USA eines der beliebtesten und zählt seit vielen Jahren zu den Highlights in den Staaten. Im Grand Sierra Resort & Casino werden drei Turniere innerhalb von einer Woche ausgetragen. Die Location zählt zum Besten, was man finden kann und auch die Organisation von CueSports International ist jedes Jahr aufs Neue vorbildlich. Diese Meisterschaften auf den kleinen Pool Billard Tischen (7 Fuß) haben in den USA eine lange Tradition und versprechen wie im letzten Jahr spannende und faszinierende Spiele. Die Tische werden von der Firma Diamond gestellt und unterscheiden sich von einem normalen 9 Fuß Turniertisch nur in ihrer Größe. Es ist ziemlich bemerkenswert, was viele der Topspieler auf solchen Tischen, mit diesem geringen Platz, für erstklassige Partien spielen. Alle Bilder / Copyright MoneyBattle.com Bereits vor 3 Wochen fand im kleinen niederländischen Städtchen Deurne das zweite MoneyBattle Event statt. Wir waren am Samstag, den 17. Januar Live dabei und schildern Euch unsere Eindrücke von einer der besten Ideen der letzten Jahre in der Pool Billard Szene. Nun, bevor es losgeht, sollten wir erstmal erklären, was denn nun dieses MoneyBattle bzw. MoneyBattle.com ist. Wie der Name schon vermuten lässt, geht es hier um Pool Billard Matches um einen gewissen Geldeinsatz den die Spieler selber bestimmen. Das Minimum beträgt 100 Euro. In der heutigen Zeit ist das Spielen um Geld in der Billardszene mehr oder weniger ein Skandal 😉 Heute kann es einem passieren das man „Hausverbot“ bekommt, wenn man mit seinem Gegner um eine Tasse Kaffee oder die Tischmiete spielen möchte. Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) gewinnt 2015 WPBA Masters im Finale gegen Ga Young Kim (KOR) mit 5-1 und 5-3. Den 3. Platz belegen Chen Siming (CHN) und Karen Corr (IRE). Bereits seit gestern findet in Mount Pleasant, Michigan/USA die 2015er Ausgabe des WPBA Masters statt. Das 2015 WPBA Masters ist eine Damen Pool Billard Veranstaltung und gehört zu den bedeutendsten Damen Turnieren im ganzen Jahr. Das Gesamtpreisgeld beträgt 50.000$ und gespielt wird 9 Ball. Vom 04. – 08. Februar treffen sich im Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort 48 der besten Pool Billard Spielerinnen der Welt und spielen um einen der begehrtesten Titel auf der Damen Tour. Das WPBA Masters wird im Rahmen der Soaring Eagle Open IX ausgetragen. Die Soaring Eagle Open sind eine reine Amateur Veranstaltung, zu der keine Pros zugelassen sind. Der Japanische Billard-Verband hat eine Online Petition zur Aufnahme von Billard in das Programm der Olympischen und Paralympischen Spiele 2020 in Tokio auf den Weg gebracht, die vom Billard-Weltverband World Confederation of Billiards Sports (WCBS) und seinen internationalen Mitgliedsverbänden für Karambol, Pool und Snooker mitgetragen wird. Unter dem Motto: Let’s make Billiards an official sport in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics sind alle Billardspieler, -freunde und -anhänger weltweit aufgefordert, diese Aktion mit ihrer Unterschrift zu unterstützen. 2020 besteht für Tokio als Ausrichter zum ersten Mal die Möglichkeit, zusätzlich zu den etablierten Sportarten zwei neue Sportarten in olympische Programm aufzunehmen, wovon eine Billard sein könnte. Es ist deshalb wichtig und bedeutsam, frühzeitig, global und massiv Billard dafür zu positionieren. Die Deutsche Billard-Union fordert alle Engagierten und Enthusiasten des Billardsports auf, sich an der Aktion mit einem positiven Votum von ganz Billard-Deutschland zu beteiligen.
