WPBL Finals: Victory for the Outlaws LAS VEGAS, NV (February 15, 2014) The World Professional League played their first league championship at the WPBL Arena in Las Vegas, NV Friday February 13, 2014 which was broadcast live in the US via ESPN3. The final match-up had the #2 seed Minnesota Outlaws facing off against the league’s #12 seed the Atlanta Scorpions. The inaugural season’s first championship was not without some pomp and circumstance. Opening ceremonies included the singing of the National Anthem and displaying of the championship trophy that the winning team would take home. Johnny Archers’ Atlanta Scorpions who are not without superb talent, were league underdogs going into the match facing one of the most consistent teams throughout the season Thorsten Hohmann’s Minnesota Outlaws.  In the end, the Outlaws proved too tough for the Scorpions as they held on to win the first WPBL Championship. WPBL All Star Charity Billiards Challenge On Behalf of Philippine Haiyan Relief LAS VEGAS, NV (February 14, 2014) TheWorld Professional Billiard League hosted the WPBL All Star Charity Billiards Challenge on Friday February 14, 2014.  The event which was held at the WPBL Arena in Las Vegas, was held on behalf of Typhoon Haiyan relief in the Philippines. Carlo Biado and Warren Kiamco registered back-to-back perfect games in singles, helping the Philippine All-Stars storm back for an 11-4 victory over a team of WPBL All-Stars. Biado broke and shot to a perfect score of 33 before missing a bonus ball attempt at a side pocket, in a game that saw opponent John Morra never make the table.Biado’s win gave the Filipino All-Stars an 8-4 lead before Kiamco took advantage of a Thorsten Hohmann illegal break that set up a run of 30 straight, ending the match at 11-4. WPBL Semi-Finals: Outlaws outlast the Poison Minnesota Outlaws Face-Off against the Atlanta Scorpions in the Finals LAS VEGAS, NV (February 13, 2014) The second World Professional League semi-final match was played at the WPBL Arena in Las Vegas, NV. On Thursday February 13, 2014. The match-up featured the #2 seed Minnesota Outlaws vs. the #9 seed Pittsburg Poison. The Poison’s dramatic run in the WPBL Championship Playoffs ended with a heartbreaking 7-5 loss to the Outlaws Thursday February 13th, sending Minnesota to Saturday’s WPBL Championship game to face the Atlanta Scorpions. Pittsburgh needed to win the final game in regulation to stay alive, but failed to score when given the opportunities down the stretch. That left the door open for Minnesota to run out the clock in regulation and clinch the match. Pittsburgh fell behind in the match 4-0 in the first three games before storming back to take a 5-4 lead when Shawn Putnam outlasted Ralf Souquet in a singles shoot-out 27-19. WPBL Semi-Finals: Scorpions prevail over the Pride LAS VEGAS, NV (February 13, 2014) The first of two semi-final matches in the World Professional Billiard League’s Championship Playoffs were played at the WPBL Arena in Las Vegas, NV. The #1 seed New York Pride took on the #12 seed Atlanta Scorpions on Wednesday February 12, 2014. The lowest seeded team in the WPBL will be moving on to the championship match after defeating the top seeded team in the semi-finals. The Scorpions will play in Saturday’s final after a 7-2 victory over the Pride. Atlanta will face-off in the title match against either the Minnesota Outlaws or the Pittsburgh Poison. The Wednesday semi-final was decided in the seventh game, when Earl Strickland’s comeback effort fell 6 points short to Shannon Daulton 25-20, giving Atlanta that game and the match. First Round WPBL Playoffs: Cruise upset the Hustlers LAS VEGAS, NV (February 7, 2014) In the third match of the World Professional Billiard League’s 2013-2014 Playoffs the Houston Hustlers took on the Miami Cruise at the WPBL Arena in Las Vegas February 7, 2014. A difficult cut shot by Jose Parica clinched the match for the Cruise, who upset the Hustlers 7-4 in Friday’s first round of the WPBL Championship Playoff tournament.Miami only needed to avoid a shut-out in the match’s final game of 3 on 3, which happened when Parica sank a one point purple ball giving #10 seed Miami the win. Miami had a chance to clinch the match a game earlier in singles, however Hunter Lombardo couldn’t finish off Justin Hall in a shoot-out that Hall won 31-18, putting Houston within 7-4.The loss was the only one for Miami in singles, as Jose Parica and Corey Deuel knocked off Chip Compton and Jeremy Jones 30-9 and 30-10 respectively. First Round WPBL Playoffs: Scorpions upset the Wave Florian “Venom” Kohler Performs at Halftime LAS VEGAS, NV (February 5, 2014) The World Professional Billiard League’s 2013-2014 Playoffs began today.  First round action saw the #5 seed Los Angeles Wave vs. the #12 seed Atlanta Scorpions at the WPBL Arena in Las Vegas. Johnny Archer’s Atlanta Scorpions upset Oscar Dominquez’ Los Angeles Wave 8-2, capturing a victory in the first ever playoff match in the history of the WPBL. The Scorpions capitalized on several uncharacteristic Los Angeles mistakes, and picked up a pair of one point shoot-out wins in the first two games of the match. Dennis Hatch and Shannon Daulton knocked off Ernesto Dominguez and Louis Ulrich 30-6 in doubles, giving Atlanta their first regulation win of the match, lifting their lead to 4-0. First Amateur WPBL Tournament held in Phoenix Scott Frost and Rodney Morris Host Bonus Ball Exhibition LAS VEGAS, NV (January 15, 2014) The World Professional Billiard Leagueheld their first amateur tournament in Phoenix, AZ on January 11, 2014. The tournament which featured the game of Bonus Ball, had a division for bothmen and women. Michael Bates owner of Bull Shooters hosted the event with the assistance of Tres Kane and Phoenix Fire captain Scott Frost. The facility which boasts 44 tables under 20,000 sq. ft. of space, drew 30 participants and numerous spectators. Fans and players gathered at noon for a two hour exhibition instructed by Frost, Chicago Rockets captain Rodney Morris and WPBL President Larry Chiborak. The exhibition consisted of teaching the six pocket amateur version of Bonus Ball.  The rules for this version only require the use of one specialty shot, all six pockets and is handicapped for all amateurs to play.
