Lee Van Corteza Makes History: First Asian World 14.1 Champion

New York City– Philippines‘ Lee Van Corteza did what no other Asian before him could do before him, win the World 14.1. The slim, smooth playing Filipino became the Bottledeck.net 77th World 14.1 Champion, and doing so in fashion by defeating none other than the king of straight pool, Thorsten Hohmann of Germany. The week long event was challenging with Corteza playing a total of 13 matches and pocketing almost 2000 balls. Hohmann had pocketed over 1700 shots. The World 14.1 title is perhaps the most hard earned title in billiards with no luck or short cuts in winning games. Day 6 which took place the day before the finals saw the quarter-finalists duel it out for a place in the semi’s. Top American 14.1 specialist Danny Harriman had defeated 2012 World 14.1 Champion John Schmidt in the final 12, but fell 200-111 to the powerful Darren Appleton of the UK. Thorsten Hohmann (GER) gewinnt The 75th World Tournament of 14.1 2015 im Finale gegen Titelverteidiger Darren Appleton (GBR) mit 300-244. Den 3. Platz belegen Reiner Wirsbitzki (GER) und Warren Kiamco (PHI). Am nächsten Montag startet in New York die 75. Ausgabe des World Tournament of 14.1 (Straight Pool). Vom 13. – 19. Juli 2015 werden im sehr bekannten Steinway Billiards viele der Besten Straight Pool Spieler der Welt an den Start gehen. Dieses von Dragon Promotions organisierte Pool Billard Event zählt zu den letzten wirklich großen 14.1 Veranstaltungen auf der ganzen Welt. Im Grunde ist diese Disziplin ziemlich stark vom Aussterben bedroht, wenn man sich die weltweite Turnierlandschaft anschaut. Irrtümlicherweise wird das World Tournament of 14.1 oft als Weltmeisterschaft bezeichnet. Dafür müsste es von der World Pool Billiard Association unterstützt werden und das Preisgeld eine bestimmte Höhe haben. New York City, NY – For the 10th year in a row, qualifiers will be held nationwide for the 75th edition of The World Tournament of 14.1. Players all over the United States will be able to take their chance to win a spot into the grand slam of straight pool! Each qualifier winner will be guaranteed a minimal of 6 round robin matches in the finale main event. The main event will take place once more in New York City. Darren Appleton (GBR) gewinnt The ANDY CLOTH 74th World Tournament of 14.1 2014 im Finale gegen Shane Van Boening (USA) mit 200-27. Den 3. Platz belegen Max Eberle (USA) und Evgeny Stalev (RUS). Am nächsten Montag, den 04. August 2014 beginnt in New York/Queens das 74th World Tournament of 14.1 2014. Bereits zum 74. mal wird der beste 14.1 Spieler bei dieser inoffiziellen Weltmeisterschaft gesucht. Dieses 14.1 Turnier ist in den letzten Jahren ein ziemlich großer Erfolg. Leider gibt es immer weniger Turniere, bei denen heute noch 14.1 (Straight Pool) gespielt wird. Für viele ist diese Disziplin nach wie vor die Königsdisziplin und das komplexeste Spiel überhaupt. August 2013 findet im Steinway Billiards in Astoria/New York die 73. Ausgabe des World Tournament of 14.1 statt.
