2016 Mosconi Cup – Rodney maintains lead as Oscar closes in

13th July – 2016 Mosconi Cup Rodney maintains lead as Oscar closes in WITH TWO more events having played out over the past weekend, veteran Rodney Morris still leads in the 28 event series as the chase for the three automatic spots on Team USA continues. With 12 events gone, there is everything to play for. With overseas players filling six of the top eight spots at the West Coast Challenge, it was Jason Williams who was the best placed American, finishing third with 28 points. Oscar Dominguez earned 18 points for his 7th place finish which was enough to maintain his second spot in the ranking and close the gap to just five points. Elsewhere, on the Mid-West 9 Ball Tour in Olathe, Kansas it was veteran Robb Saez who bagged the top spot and with it 35 points to break in to the top ten. 2016 Mosconi Cup – Rocket on top after Don Coates win

19th April – 2016 Mosconi Cup Rocket on top after Don Coates win AFTER EIGHT events on the Official Mosconi Cup Team USA Ranking list, it is Rodney Morris who leads the way following a win at the Don Coates Memorial. Having had a great start to the MC qualifying season, the ‘Rocket’ is looking to make a return to the side following his last appearance in 2013. A Mosconi Cup MVP back in 2003, Morris has made a total of nine appearances in the event with a 48% win record. Filling out the other two automatic spots are Mike Dechaine who in second place as he looks to make his fourth MC appearance. Hot on his heels is Oscar Dominguez, a winner of two events this season and just three points adrift. 1st March – 2016 Mosconi Cup Fortunski wins in Italy to head MC ranking MIESKO FORTUNSKI is yet another in a long line of Polish players to make an impact in Europe as he won the Italian Open on the Euro Tour last week to take the early lead in the 2106 Team Europe Mosconi Cup rankings. The young Pole defeated seasoned vet Ralf Souquet who is himself looking to make his record-equalling 17th appearance in the annual Europe v USA 9 ball challenge. Other high finishers were two-time Mosconi Cup winner Nikos Ekonomopoulus and Jayson Shaw who both reached the semi-finals. Shaw has made his Mosconi Cup intentions clear this year by competing in the opening qualifying event. Niels Feijen and Mark Gray were also in the points as was Konstantin Stepanov, a Mosconi Cup winner in 2007. 24th February – 2016 Mosconi Cup Dominguez is early leader as qualification race hots up WITH FIVE of the scheduled 25 tournaments in the Official Mosconi Cup Team USA Ranking list having taken place, it is California’s Oscar Dominguez who leads the way following his win at the Jay Swanson Memorial at the weekend. His 30 point haul, added to the 38 he won at Turning Stone and the DCC in January, gives him an 11 point lead over seasoned Mosconi Cup veteran Rodney Morris in second place. Dominguez, 30, is looking to make his second appearance in Team USA colours after winning on his debut in 2009. In third position is Shane Van Boening, who has only played in one of the five events, but made the most of it in winning the Derby City Classic. Other tournament winners include 7th placed Skyler Woodward who took the Texas 10 Ball Open and Mike Dechaine who claimed the Empire State 10 Ball at the weekend. 19th February – 2016 Mosconi Cup Two captains named for MC XXIII MARCUS CHAMAT and MARK WILSON have been retained as respective captains of Team Europe and Team USA for the 23rd annual Mosconi Cup match which takes place at the Alexandra Palace, London from Tuesday 6th to Friday 9th December. Chamat, 40, was victorious on his captaincy debut at the Tropicana in Las Vegas last year as he guided his side to an 11-7 victory. He will be hoping to make it two from two in London. 2016 Mosconi Cup – Team Europe qualification series announced

15th February – 2016 Mosconi Cup Team Europe qualification series announced WITH THE opening event on the Official Mosconi Cup Team Europe Ranking taking place next week in Italy, Matchroom Sport can announce the full roster of events to determine three of the five spots on Team Europe for the 2016 event next December. This year, in addition to ‘World’ events and the Euro Tour season, there is now an additional lower level of four established European events to give more opportunities for players to garner ranking points as the season progresses. In total there are 12 events grouped into three levels. The highest is comprised of three WPA international events; the second is five Euro Tour events and the last is four smaller open events. The maximum number of points awarded for winning a qualifying tournament is 80 for a Level One event and the minimum given for a victory would be 28 for a Category Three event.
