Mosconi Cup XXIII – Team Europe Confirmed

9th November – 2016 Mosconi Cup Europe team set for Ally Pally fireworks JAYSON SHAW closed out a memorable qualifying campaign for this year’s Mosconi Cup as he won the final event – the Kuwait Open 9 Ball – to win both the Combined and World ranking lists. That gave the US-based Scot his first ever Mosconi Cup start and he will enter the fray on a wave of confidence. With Niels Feijen having taken the Euro ranking list spot, it meant that the final automatic berth on Team Europe reverted to the Combined list, and it was England’s Mark Gray who took it to make his third Mosconi Cup appearance, eight years after his debut in Malta. For his wildcard picks, captain Marcus Chamat went firstly for Austria’s Albin Ouschan who had another stand-out year, winning the World 9 Ball Championship in Qatar. For his final pick, he went for experience, grit and determination with England’s Darren Appleton. Marcus Chamat was delighted with his final line up; “Niels is a World Champion and four-time […]

The South Dakota Kid took top honours at the Tornado Open in Florida to give himself a huge lead 77 point over second placed Skyler Woodward. Van Boening would need to go pointless at the final two events, with the second, third and fourth placed players filling up the top spots for him to miss out on a trip to London in December. Woodward took top spot at Chinook Winds to leapfrog into second spot while Rodney Morris came home in fifth spot, earning enough points to keep in the top three. His lead is the slimmest of the slim as Mike Dechaine finished fourth at the Gotham City 9 Ball Classic to lie one point behind Morris in fourth spot. Oscar […]

10th August – 2016 Mosconi Cup Albin back in the reckoning ALBIN OUSCHAN saw his 2016 Mosconi Cup chances increase hugely when he was crowned WPA World 9 Ball champion in Qatar earlier this month. The title was a vindication of the young Austrian’s talent and resolve, as he followed up his silver medal in 2015 with gold. The win puts Ouschan on top of the European World points list after just one event. There are three more tournaments to go – China Open, US Open and the Kuwait Open – and Ouschan has got off to the best possible start in that ranking and will be looking to make the team and emulate his Mosconi Cup showing last year when he bagged the winning 9 ball.
