2015 PartyPoker Mosconi Cup – Chamat enters fray as race hots up

27th April – 2015 PartyPoker Mosconi Cup Chamat enters fray as race hots up MARCUS CHAMAT, who was recently named as captain of the 2015 European PartyPoker Mosconi Cup team is on course to land one of the three automatic spots following a runners-up spot in the recent Portuguese Open on the Euro Tour. The 39 year-old Swede was beaten by Poland’s Mateusz Sniegocki in the championship match, but the 16 pts earned coupled with his existing points tally, move him to a tie for first in the Combined Ranking along with David Alcaide (Spain) and Holland’s Niels Feijen. There are three separate ranking lists in operation – the first comprised of a five event Euro Tour series; the second a four event ‘World’ series and the last a combined ranking of the two. Feijen (Holland) leads the Euro Tour ranking while Spain’s David Alcaide, a European team member in 2006, heads up both the ‘World’ list following his semi-final finish at the WPA World 10 Ball Championship in the Philippines in February. At the […]

Portuguese Open 2015

Mateusz Sniegocki (POL) gewinnt Portuguese Open 2015 im Finale gegen Marcus Chamat (SWE) mit 9-3. Den 3. Platz belegen Mario He (AUT) und Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz (SPA).

Feijen wins Dynamic Billard Italian Open

Italian Open 2015 – 28/02/2015 With a clear 9:2 victory over Nick Malai (GRE) in the final match, Niels Feijen (NED) took the title of the Dynamic Billard Italian Open Champion 2015 at the Best Western Premium BHR Hotel in Treviso, Italy, today. Feijen left no chance for Malai in the final. In the beginning, Malai missed some easy shots which was punished by Feijen straight away. It looked like Malai got really frustrated, being in his chair for so long watching Feijen take rack after rack. In fact, Malai could not get a foot on the floor in the final match. Therefore, the result of 9:2 in favor of Feijen is fully deserved. After winning the 9-Ball World Championships and the straight pool European Championships last year, Feijen had his last Euro-Tour victory in June 2013 in Austria. He was in the final against Nick van den Berg in December but he lost that quite clear. „I got tortured last time by Nick, so I am really happy that I was able to win […]

Striding, and Stumbling, Out of the Gates

Day 1 at the 2015 MP Cup World 10-ball Championship in General Santos City sees some favorites cruise while others struggle to find their form. By Ted Lerner/WPA Press Officer (General Santos City, Philippines)–One thing that is a constant in any world championship in the sport of pool is good old pressure. But as the 2015 MP Cup World 10-ball championship kicked off on Tuesday in the Philippines southernmost city of General Santos, it was not the usual nerve rattling pressure that makes grown men cry and brings back the fans time and again that was on display. It was, rather, that nagging pressure to get out of the gates quickly, to find that championship spark that can carry you to glory later in the week. “There’s two kind of pressure in these events,” said an obviously relieved Karl Boyes after he took down former world 9-ball champion Ronnie Alcano of the Philippines 9-7 in their first match of the group stages. “The first pressure is trying to get through the group stages, to just […]

2015 WPA World 10 Ball Championship

Pinoys Poised to Make Massive Haul

Filipinos make up one-third of the 128 player field as the 2015 MP Cup World 10-ball Championship gets set to kick off in General Santos City, Philippines. By Ted Lerner/WPA Press Officer (General Santos City, Philippines)–With the professional game all but dead in his homeland, boxing legend Manny Pacquiao started putting his ample cash into promoting pool tournaments in 2014, with the expressed aim of helping Filipino pool players get some cracks at glory, and of course, more chances to earn a living at home. In just a few months, “Pacman”, a solid pool player in his own right, has already shelled out hundreds of thousands of dollars in several singles and doubles events held in his home town of General Santos City in the southern Philippines. But now, just as Pacquiao seems set to announce the biggest payday of his illustrious boxing career in a mega fight with Floyd Mayweather, he has upped the ante in pool yet again,  personally bankrolling the return of the WPA World 10-ball Championship that gets underway beginning on […]

4th December – 2014 PartyPoker Mosconi Cup Europe storm to another MC victory EUROPE 11-5 USA Darren Appleton 5-2 Shane Van Boening Nikos Ekonomopoulos 5-2 Shane Van Boening TEAM EUROPE won the 2014 PartyPoker Mosconi Cup, beating the USA 11-5 in front of a boisterous crowd at the Tower Circus, Blackpool. The score line was their joint second best winning margin and leaves the Americans with some soul-searching to do as they attempt to get back into competitive shape for the annual transatlantic 9 ball showdown. Leading 9-5 going into the final session, the Europeans wanted just two points for the glory and two matches were all that were needed as first Darren Appleton beat Shane Van Boening 5-2 and then Nikos Ekonomopoulos did the same by a similar score to seal a one-sided victory for Europe. For the winning captain, Johan Ruijsink, it was his seventh and last Mosconi Cup in charge and remains undefeated, an astounding record in any sport. He said, “It is humbling to win again. The players played great and […]
