Thorsten Hohmann (GER) gewinnt The 75th World Tournament of 14.1 2015 im Finale gegen Titelverteidiger Darren Appleton (GBR) mit 300-244. Den 3. Platz belegen Reiner Wirsbitzki (GER) und Warren Kiamco (PHI). Am nächsten Montag startet in New York die 75. Ausgabe des World Tournament of 14.1 (Straight Pool). Vom 13. – 19. Juli 2015 werden im sehr bekannten Steinway Billiards viele der Besten Straight Pool Spieler der Welt an den Start gehen. Dieses von Dragon Promotions organisierte Pool Billard Event zählt zu den letzten wirklich großen 14.1 Veranstaltungen auf der ganzen Welt. Im Grunde ist diese Disziplin ziemlich stark vom Aussterben bedroht, wenn man sich die weltweite Turnierlandschaft anschaut. Irrtümlicherweise wird das World Tournament of 14.1 oft als Weltmeisterschaft bezeichnet. Dafür müsste es von der World Pool Billiard Association unterstützt werden und das Preisgeld eine bestimmte Höhe haben. Natürlich gibt es seitens der WPA noch einige Auflagen mehr, damit dieses 14.1 Turnier als offizielle WM durchgeht. Allen Hopkins, Danny Barouty & Willie Mosconi to be Inducted into the 2015 Straight Pool Hall of Fame New York City, NY – The votes are in, and Allen Hopkins, Danny Barouty, and Willie Mosconi will all be inducted this year during the Andy Cloth 75th World Tournament of 14.1 . The 5th Annual 14.1 Hall of Fame takes place Wednesday July 15th 8pm with a dinner banquet at Steinway Cafe-Billiards. Am Sonntag, den 12. April beginnen in Vale do Lobo/Portugal die diesjährigen Pool Billard Europameisterschaften der Damen, Herren und Rollstuhlfahrer. Bis zum 22. April 2015 werden in Portugal die Europameister der Disziplinen 8 Ball, 9 Ball, 14.1, 10 Ball und Team gesucht. Insgesamt gehen mehr als 180 Pool Billard Spieler aus 36 Nationen im sehr schönen Ria Park Hotel in Vale do Lobo an den Start. Natürlich wird auch dieses Jahr von fast allen Teilnehmern einiges abverlangt. In 10 Tagen werden in allen Disziplinen die Medaillen ausgespielt und der Turnierplan ist ziemlich üppig gestaltet. Über den Sinn und Unsinn dieses Ablaufs bei einer Europameisterschaft wurde bereits viel diskutiert. Die meisten Topspieler tendieren zu deutlich weniger Disziplinen und zu einem Zweijahresrhythmus. Das hätte u. a. den Vorteil das ein Europameister weitaus mehr Chancen hätte seinen Titel „auszukosten“ und gewinnbringend zu vermarkten. Wer weiß, vielleicht wird ja bereits innerhalb der EPBF darüber diskutiert und wir werden in den nächsten Jahren ein Umdenken erleben. Darren Appleton (GBR) gewinnt American 14.1 Straight Pool Championship 2014 im Finale gegen Karen Corr (IRE) mit 150-28. Den 3. Platz belegen Kevin Clark (USA) und Jason Klatt (CAN). Während in Europa vom 12. – 14. September 2014 die 2014 PREDATOR French Open und die Pinneberg Open 2014 ausgetragen werden, finden im Diamond Billiards in Midlothian/Virginia – USA die American 14.1 Straight Pool Championship 2014 statt. Dieses 14.1 Turnier ist quasi der Nachfolger der Maryland Straight Pool Championship, die im Vorjahr von Thorsten Hohmann aus Deutschland gewonnen wurde. Austragungsort ist das Diamond Billiards in Midlothian und das Preisgeld beträgt 25.000$. Davon gehen 5.000$ an den Sieger der American 14.1 Straight Pool Championship 2014. Gespielt wird in den Vorrunden am Freitag und Samstag ein Round Robin System auf 100 Punkte. Am Sonntag wird dann im Achtelfinale auf 125 Punkte gespielt und ab dem Viertelfinale auf 150 Punkte. Die Gesamtübersicht gibt es weiter unten. Am morgigen Dienstag, den 15. April 2014 beginnt im Sandcastle Billiards in Edison/New Jersey das Accu-Stats „Make It Happen“ All Star Invitational 2014. Bis zum 20. April treten vier der weltbesten Pool Billard Spieler der Welt gegeneinander an. Im 8 Ball (Race to 10), One Pocket (Race to 4), Straight Pool (Race to 150 Points) und 10 Ball (Race to 11) werden Thorsten Hohman (GER – World 9 Ball Champion 2013), Shane Van Boening (USA – US Open 9 Ball Champion 2013), Darren Appleton (GBR – World 9 Ball Champion 2012) und Dennis Orcollo (PHI – China Open Champion 2012) jeder gegen jeden spielen. Defending Champions Van den Berg and Ouschan on their way The day started rather stormy. The sea which is normally inviting the people for a nice swim was rough and capricious. Maybe that was a presage for today’s straight pool matches. 95 men and 45 women had taken up the challenge to see who will wear the crown in European straight pool in 2014. Defending Champions were Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) and Nick van den Berg (NED) and they knew that it will not be an easy task to claim the title again this year. Van den Berg had a tough opening match against Daniele Corrieri (ITA). The Italian stood out at recent Euro-Tours by always making it to the final stages of the event. So the match was expected to be a tough fight… and it was! Van den Berg made a mistake at 4:0 and allowed Corrieri to enter the table with a clear shot. The Italian thanked him and made 56 balls.
