World Pool Masters – 2018 dates announced

WORLD POOL MASTERS RETURNS TO GIBRALTAR The World Pool Masters will return to Gibraltar from Friday, March 2 – Sunday, March 4 as some of the biggest names from the 25-year history of pool’s most prestigious invitational event return to celebrate the tournament’s quarter-centenary. The Masters’ venue will once again be the Tercentenary Sports Hall, Victoria Stadium, with ticket details to be announced shortly. The World Pool Masters’ return to Gibraltar comes on the back of the success 2017 tournament held in the shadow of the famous Rock of Gibraltar, as David Alcaide fought off a fierce field to land his first Masters title. David Alcaide (SPA) gewinnt 2017 dafabet World Pool Masters im Finale gegen Jayson Shaw (SCO) mit 8-7. Den 3. Platz belegen Chang Jung-Lin (TW) und Albin Ouschan (AUT). Ab dem kommenden Freitag, den 17. Februar 2017 wird in Gibraltar die 24. Ausgabe des World Pool Masters ausgetragen. Bis zum Sonntag, den 19. Februar werden 16 der besten Pool Billard Spieler der Welt in der Tercentenary Sports Hall um das Gesamtpreisgeld von 80.000$ spielen. Der Gewinner bei diesem von Matchroom Sport organisierten Top-Event kassiert 20.000$. In den letzten beiden Jahren war es US Superstar Shane Van Boening der in sehr überzeugender Manier das World Pool Masters für sich entschieden hat. 2017 World Pool Masters – Field announced

3rd January – World Pool Masters Full field announced WITH HALF THE 16 man field already announced for the 24th annual World Pool Masters, the remaining eight players can now be named to complete the line-up and make the field one of the strongest in recent years. The event will be taking place from Friday to Sunday 17th – 19th February at the Victoria Stadium, Gibraltar. 2017 World Pool Masters – Tickets now on sale

20th December – Masters tickets now on sale WITH THE 24th ANNUAL WORLD POOL MASTERS taking place from Friday to Sunday 17th – 19th February at the Victoria Stadium, Gibraltar, Matchroom Sport can announce that tickets for the event are now on sale. With five sessions of play in total, all tickets are available from https://www.buytickets.gi/events/world-pool-masters-2017-87 Tickets are priced at £15 for the Friday evening and both afternoon sessions and £20 for Saturday and Sunday evening sessions. An all-session season ticket is £75. With a field of 16 of the world’s top pool shooters coming to Gibraltar to chase the $20,000 top prize, eight of the stars competing can be named today. They include the defending champion on the hunt for three Masters titles in a row – Shane Van Boening of the USA. 11th July RASSON announced as new Matchroom Pool table supplier MATCHROOM SPORT is delighted to announce that RASSON BILLIARDS will be the Official Table Supplier at all Matchroom pool events over the next three years. The company, based in Jiujiang City in south western China, have made large in roads into the billiard world since setting up 26 years ago. Originally, they were a slate producing country, something that they still specialize in. Rasson will be bringing their top-of-the-range Victory table to the Mosconi Cup, World Cup of Pool and World Pool Masters. Alex Lely and Dennis Orcollo had reached the final in their defence of the title but Van Boening went one better with a blistering display of breaking to take the title and the $20,000 winner’s cheque. In the final match of the session, Mark Gray put in a terrific performance to defeat Ralf Souquet following an excellent comeback as the match slipped away from him. At 6-3 down Gray looked to have it all against him but a miss from the German put him back in and from there he never looked back. Said Gray, “I am well chuffed. 15th August – 2015 PartyPoker World Pool Masters Round One Nikos Ekonomopoulos (GRE) 3-8 Ralf Souquet (GER) Johnny Archer (USA) 8-2 James Georgiadis (AUS) Quarter-Finals Niels Feijen (HOL) 6-8 Liu Haitao (CHN) Liu Haitao, the 33 year-old from Neimenggu, China became the first man through to the semi-finals of the PartyPoker World Pool Masters as he overcame Holland’s Niels Feijen in a hard fought match at the Victoria Warehouse. Liu, the sharp-shooting World No.10, had a great start, aided by two misses by Feijen and it allowed him to take a 6-2 lead. Feijen though regrouped and won the next three to get within one rack of Liu. Momentum was stalled though when he broke dry in rack 12 and Liu ran out to move to 7-5. Feijen won rack 13 to stay alive but a push out to a jump with no shot on the 1 ball let Liu regain momentum with a quality jump shot. First Gray turned over highly fancied Ko Pin Yi in an upset and then Darren made light work of Poland’s Mateusz Sniegocki. Earlier England’s Daryl Peach was ousted by up-and-coming Qatari star Waleed Majid. In the opening match of the session, seeded player Waleed Majid took care of an out-of-sorts Daryl Peach (England) by an 8-4 score line. There were plenty of errors as each player gifted the other chances as the score moved to 3-3.
