WPBL All Star Charity Billiards Challenge On Behalf of Philippine Haiyan Relief LAS VEGAS, NV (February 14, 2014) TheWorld Professional Billiard League hosted the WPBL All Star Charity Billiards Challenge on Friday February 14, 2014. The event which was held at the WPBL Arena in Las Vegas, was held on behalf of Typhoon Haiyan relief in the Philippines. Carlo Biado and Warren Kiamco registered back-to-back perfect games in singles, helping the Philippine All-Stars storm back for an 11-4 victory over a team of WPBL All-Stars. Biado broke and shot to a perfect score of 33 before missing a bonus ball attempt at a side pocket, in a game that saw opponent John Morra never make the table.Biado’s win gave the Filipino All-Stars an 8-4 lead before Kiamco took advantage of a Thorsten Hohmann illegal break that set up a run of 30 straight, ending the match at 11-4. WPBL Semi-Finals: Outlaws outlast the Poison Minnesota Outlaws Face-Off against the Atlanta Scorpions in the Finals LAS VEGAS, NV (February 13, 2014) The second World Professional League semi-final match was played at the WPBL Arena in Las Vegas, NV. On Thursday February 13, 2014. The match-up featured the #2 seed Minnesota Outlaws vs. the #9 seed Pittsburg Poison. The Poison’s dramatic run in the WPBL Championship Playoffs ended with a heartbreaking 7-5 loss to the Outlaws Thursday February 13th, sending Minnesota to Saturday’s WPBL Championship game to face the Atlanta Scorpions. Pittsburgh needed to win the final game in regulation to stay alive, but failed to score when given the opportunities down the stretch. That left the door open for Minnesota to run out the clock in regulation and clinch the match. Pittsburgh fell behind in the match 4-0 in the first three games before storming back to take a 5-4 lead when Shawn Putnam outlasted Ralf Souquet in a singles shoot-out 27-19. WPBL Semi-Finals: Scorpions prevail over the Pride LAS VEGAS, NV (February 13, 2014) The first of two semi-final matches in the World Professional Billiard League’s Championship Playoffs were played at the WPBL Arena in Las Vegas, NV. The #1 seed New York Pride took on the #12 seed Atlanta Scorpions on Wednesday February 12, 2014. The lowest seeded team in the WPBL will be moving on to the championship match after defeating the top seeded team in the semi-finals. The Scorpions will play in Saturday’s final after a 7-2 victory over the Pride. Atlanta will face-off in the title match against either the Minnesota Outlaws or the Pittsburgh Poison. The Wednesday semi-final was decided in the seventh game, when Earl Strickland’s comeback effort fell 6 points short to Shannon Daulton 25-20, giving Atlanta that game and the match. The night was dominated by shoot-outs, with only 1 of the seven games decided in regulation. Derby City Classic 2014

In der Zeit vom 24. Januar bis 01. Februar 2014 findet im Horseshoe Casino in Indiana/USA die 16. Auflage des Derby City Classic statt. Auch in diesem Jahr ist das DCC eines der wichtigsten und spannendsten Pool Billard Events des Jahres. Über eine ganze Woche wird Pool Billard total geboten. Drei Hauptevents und zig Sideevents lassen keine Langeweile aufkommen. Die drei Hauptveranstaltungen sind 9 Ball Bank, One Pocket und 9 Ball. Die erfolgreichsten Teilnehmer aller Hauptevents kommen für den Titel „All Around Champion“ infrage und haben somit eine Chance auf das Preisgeld von 25.000$. Im letzten Jahr sicherte sich Francisco Bustamante (PHI) diesen Titel. Die spannendsten Sideevents sind die Straight-Pool Challenge und die DIAMOND Bigfoot 10-Ball Challenge, bei der es immerhin 16.000$ added Money abzustauben gibt. Das Gesamtpreisgeld des Derby City Classic 2014 liegt bei etwa 200.000$. Nahezu die gesamte Weltelite wird in Indiana am Start sein und versuchen einen guten Start ins Jahr 2014 zu haben. Ko Pin-Yi (TW) gewinnt 46th All Japan Championship 2013 im Finale gegen Chang Jung-Lin (TW) mit 11-10. Den 3. Platz teilen sich Thorsten Hohmann (GER) und Johann Gonzales Chua (PHI). Bei den Damen gewinnt Akimi Kajitani (JAP) im Finale gegen Chihiro Kawahara (JAP) mit 9-7. Den 3. Platz teilen sich Tsai Pei Chen (TW) und Chou Chieh Yu (TW). Morgen beginnt in Amagasaki City, Hyogo/Japan die 46. Ausgabe der All Japan Championship 2013. Bei diesem recht hoch dotierten Turnier in Japan ist es jedes Jahr aufs Neue sehr schwer an Informationen zu kommen. Scheinbar legt man in Japan keinerlei Wert darauf das die Pool Billard Seiten dieser Welt mit Informationen versorgt werden. Leider wird auch auf Emails in keinster Weise geantwortet. Vieles bleibt im verborgenen und muss mühsam im Internet zusammengesucht werden. Die 46. Die folgenden Zeilen sollen die Qpod GmbH ein wenig näher vorstellen und einen kleinen Überblick über die Firma selbst, Ihre Philosophie und natürlich auch über das Produkt geben. Der Qpod bzw. die Produkteinführung ist eine recht außergewöhnliche und in den letzten Jahren gab es in der Billardszene kaum etwas, was annähernd so sehr polarisiert hat wie die kleinen schicken „Kreidehalter„. Im weiteren Verlauf gibt es auch ein Interview mit Qpod Managing Director Bernhard Braunegger, er nimmt zu einigen Fragen Stellung und macht sicher viele Leute sehr neugierig auf die nächsten Monate. Anfangs wusste man noch nicht genau, wie ernst es der Firma ist, die sich bereits wenige Wochen nach Gründung aufmachte und immer präsenter wurde. Wie ich auf die Qpod GmbH aufmerksam geworden bin und was mich neugierig gemacht hat? Nun, gegen ende des letzten Jahres gab es eine Situation, die ich auch heute noch sehr gut in Erinnerung habe. Shane Van Boening (USA) gewinnt US Open 9 Ball Championships 2013 im Finale gegen Lee Vann Corteza (PHI) mit 13-10. Den 3. Platz belegt Jayson Shaw (SCO)! Die 38. Ausgabe der US Open 9 Ball Championships findet vom 13. – 19. Oktober 2013 im Marriott Hotel in Chesapeake statt. Stand heute, den 12. Oktober sind mehr als 160 Teilnehmer gemeldet. Dieses sehr traditionsreiche Pool Billard 9 Ball Turnier ist dass einzige weltweit das seit mehr als 30 Jahren ohne Unterbrechung stattfindet. Es gilt als eines der am schwersten zu gewinnenden Turniere überhaupt und hat den Stellenwert einer Weltmeisterschaft. Der erste Sieger der US Open 9 Ball 1976 war Mike Sigel (USA). Der erste Europäer, der dieses Turnier gewann ist der Deutsche Ralf Souquet. Er ist damit in der Geschichte dieses Turniers einer von lediglich drei Europäern, die die US Open 9 Ball gewinnen konnten. Die gesamte Siegerliste gibt es weiter unter. „Earl Strickland (USA) gewinnt Turning Stone Classic XXI im Finale gegen Jeremy Sossei (USA) mit 13-7. Den 3. Platz belegt Danny Normandin (USA)!“ Vom 19. – 22. September 2013 findet in Verona/New York die 21. Ausgabe des Turning Stone Classic statt. Im Turning Stone Resort & Casino werden erneut 128 Spieler um das Gesamtpreisgeld von 41.000$ spielen. Das Turning Stone Classic bietet stets ein sehr starkes Teilnehmerfeld in einer tollen Location. Leider wird diese Ausgabe ein wenig im Schatten des Zeitgleich stattfindenden World Cup of Pool 2013 stehen, aber einige der besten US Profis werden sicher für sehr interessante Matches sorgen. Die letzte Ausgabe im Januar gewann Shane Van Boening (USA) im Finale gegen Johnny Archer (USA) mit 13-5. Beide Spieler werden leider nicht in Verona am Start sein, da sie in London für die USA beim World Cup of Pool starten. With the victory Hohmann now becomes only the second man to win the WPA World 9-ball Championship two times, matching American Earl Strickland, who won pool’s most prestigious crown in 1991 and 2002.
